Magazines

If you know me then you know I have a subscription to every major fashion magazine on the shelves. I love the giddy feeling I get when the mail man comes in my work with a new magazine in his hand. There is nothing better to do than cuddle up in bed with hot tea and read a good magazine before bed. I use them as inspiration with my own sense of style. Looking at all the pictures can really give you great ideas to use from your own closet. Magazines are a fashionistas way of keeping up with what's to come. Here are some of my favorite magazines that I get every month. What magazines do you love?

DIY: Feather Hair Extension

Don't be the last to know that feather hair extensions are so NOW!
They are an easy non expensive way to change your hairstyle. You can get on the go clip ins or more permanent styles. This post will teach you how easy and cheap it is to do it yourself. Even all the celebs are wearing them from Steven Tyler to Selena Gomez. I posted some pictures so you can see different styles and ways to wear them before we get started.

What you need:
- Feathers
-Needle
-Leather Cording
-Clear Thread
-Embroidery Floss
-Bobby Pin
(you can add anything else you want beads, more cording, etc.)
All my supplies cost less than $10.00!! I got them all at Hobby Lobby.

Cut two 30inch (or longer depending on where you want it to hit) pieces of embroidery floss. Tie a knot at one end and tape it down to a table. Tie the two pieces in knots over and over just like the first step to tying a shoe string.

It might take a while but don't get frustrated! This is just like making a friendship bracelet(I used to be obsessed and I made one for Lauren Conrad that she really wore!!). This is your base for the extension. After you have it as long as you want it, tie a double knot and cut the remains. Take the other end and tie it to the tip of a bobby pin.
Next you need to get your clear thread and needle ready!
After you thread your needle with clear thread poke it through the base of your feather. Then through your braided embroidery floss. Thread it through a couple of times to make sure it holds. Then you are free to put whatever other accents you want on your bobby pin. I chose some single strands of leather cording and embroidery floss. I even tied some random knots in them to make it have a more tribal feel. Just simply secure all your strands on the end of the bobby pin and you're done!!

Here I am sporting my new feather hair extension!! The best thing about it is that you can make as many as you want and take them out whenever. Its nothing permanent and you can coordinate with outfits! The must have summer accessory is a feather hair extension! Enjoy your craft time!

New Blog Design

I've been doing some revamping to my blog and trying to make it more like a website. When I first created it I only wanted to focus on fashion because that is what I LOVE the most. I got to exploring a little more with decorating posts and decided I wanted my blog to be more.
Now my blog is going to be a little bit of everything, from fashion and beauty tips all the way to food (which I am NOT good at). As you can see at the top of my blog I have icons that you can choose from. Now when I write each post will be from a different category. The home page will keep you updated on every new post!
Look around and see what new subjects I will be writing about in the future. Each one has a description to let you know what it's about.
So please enjoy reading and let me know what you think!

Decor on a Budget

I recently bought a new shower curtain for my bathroom and am totally in love with it (my favorite decorating element in my apt). It has ruffles (one of my favorite things ever!) all the way down it in different fading shades of blue and green all the way up to yellow. I had my eye on it for quite sometime, but would never let myself spend over $100.00 on a shower curtain. So finally I broke down and made the purchase and it was soooo worth it. The way I see it is that I use it everyday rather than just every now and then.. kind of like sunglasses...no particular season handbag...

(my pic is a little tinted...)

So then I was stuck with no idea how to add other decor to my bathroom with this spectacular shower curtain...
One day on one of our many adventures, Katherine and I found some picture frames at Salvation Army. They were each like 50 cents apiece!! Such a steal and I knew I could use them for something.
I bought different shades of blue paint and different shades of blue paper at Hobby Lobby for about $10.00 total. I painted all the frames different colors of blue from my shower curtain.

It literally took about ten minutes to paint the frames with two coats! I also did some sanding to show the original wood for the more old rustic look I wanted.
I then cut the different colored paper to match the size of the frames. The hardest part was probably arranging the frames on the wall. I couldn't decide how I wanted it to look, but once I did it turned out cute. Just a small cluster on the wall to show off the colors.
The colors match my curtain perfect and it pulls my bathroom together! This project cost me about $10-$15 and about 30 minutes to create(mostly paint drying). I can't wait to paint more frames for my living area. I hope to have an entire wall of colored frames with black/white pictures. More projects like this in the future for us girls on a budget!

Gourmet

Gourmet

This section is to expand my experience in the kitchen
GOURMET

Here I will post about new recipes and techniques used for cooking and baking. This is something I am not good at, but I desperately want to be! I secretly dream of being that housewife cooking her husband dinner with an apron on as he walks through the doors after work(but not every night). Shhh don't tell because I don't want my boyfriend to expect anything different from what he has already experienced. I am perfectly okay with take out and dinner dates, but I need to get better in the kitchen so this page will help me.

Jailbird

From t-shirts to maxi dresses, lately I have been LOVING the black/white striped look. I could probably wear it everyday and it would never get old. Although, every time I wear it my boyfriend and his friends always say I look like a referee or straight from jail. It can be black with white or white with black, worn by all the stars...either way its the latest.
Here are some helpful hints on how to wear it and where to find my favorite black/white items.

The Kardashian sisters LOVE black/white stripes. Even baby Mason gets to wear it! They show how you can wear stripes in skirts, blazers or dresses.
Just be careful with this look because it could make you seem bigger than you really are... make sure you wear the right pieces that go with your body type.

This skirt was found on yesstyle.com for only $18.00. I would pair it with leggings like shown in the picture or with a grey tee shirt and black or red flats.

Black with white tank style maxi from Nordstroms.com ON SALE 50% off $53.90.
I would definatly choose to pair it with black wedges just like shown on the Nordstrom model.

This French Connection stretch mini dress is on Bloomingdales.com $78.00. A piece like this can be used year round. Wear it with a cardi, scarf, and boots or just sandals.

JLo is definatly on board with the black/white vibe. She's seen wearing it for every season in several styles. She shows you how to wear them relaxed and casual or dressed for a night out.

I found this striped cardi on the cutest website tonelayout.com for $29.00. They ship everything for a flat rate of $7.00(WOW). Its made out of thin fabric so it's a good transition piece for summer into fall or winter into spring.

Stripes plus a blazer is a perfect match. This one is from shockboutique.com $78.00. You could use this with black wide legged pants for the office or over a black mini dress for later. It would be a great statement peice for any wardrobe. I love blazers. You can never have too many!

Rachel Bilson (style critic herself) shows us how to add a simple striped tee to an outfit to make it all come together. You can find a little tee like this at target for almost nothing if you are having trouble adding that little flair to an outfit.

I hope this post helped you fall in love with the convict/referee look that I have overflowing in my closet.
